Climate resilience and early warning
Storms, floods and failed rains now arrive with less warning and more force. SACEP Kenya helps communities in Lower Tharaka Nithi and Meru prepare before disaster — through early-warning messages, local communication trees and practical farm-level steps.
What we do
- Farmer alerts on heavy rain and flood risk, sent by WhatsApp and SMS
- Community communication trees so warnings reach people without smartphones
- Farm preparation guidance: drainage, soil protection, livestock and seed safety
- Preparedness statements for seasons of heightened risk, such as El Niño
- Post-event recovery support: replanting, soil repair and lessons learned
An alert is only useful if it arrives early, in plain language, with something a farmer can actually do. Our messages focus on actions: dig cutoff drains, move seed and feed to high ground, secure poultry, protect stored grain.
SACEP Kenya alerts support — and never replace — official warnings from the Kenya Meteorological Department and county governments.
Who we work with
- All farmers in our working area
- Village elders, chiefs and community mobilisers
- Schools and churches acting as information points
