Print this, save it, or copy it into a notebook. It is the checklist behind SACEP Kenya's heavy-rain advisories.
Before the rains
- Clear and repair drainage channels, cut-off drains and waterways
- Check roofs, grain stores and animal housing for leaks
- Move seed, feed and chemicals to raised, dry storage
- Agree household roles: who moves animals, who secures stores, who checks on neighbours
- Join the SACEP Kenya farmer alerts list and confirm your chief's or contact's number
When heavy rain is forecast
- Move livestock to high ground early — not when water is rising
- Harvest what is ready and secure poultry
- Charge phones and keep a torch where you can find it in the dark
- Do not cross flooded rivers or bridges, on foot or in vehicles
After flooding
- Do not eat or sell food that floodwater touched; do not feed it to animals
- Treat or boil drinking water until sources are confirmed safe
- Replant and repair soil promptly; report serious damage to your ward office
- Note what failed and fix it before the next season
Remember
Follow official Kenya Meteorological Department and county government alerts. SACEP Kenya messages support, and do not replace, official warnings.
