Tree growing and landscape restoration
A tree in the ground is the easy part. SACEP Kenya's approach to tree growing focuses on survival and value: mixed species, the right tree in the right place, quality nurseries, aftercare and livelihoods that make communities want the trees to live.
What we do
- Mixed indigenous, fruit and fodder species rather than single-species planting
- Right tree, right place: matching species to soil, water and purpose
- Quality community nurseries producing healthy seedlings
- Agroforestry on farms: shade, fodder, fruit and soil repair together
- Aftercare — watering, protection from livestock and replacement of failures
- Tree-based livelihoods such as fruit, fodder and seedling sales
- Landscape restoration on degraded and riparian land
- Community-led delivery through local groups, not one-off planting days
- Survival monitoring — counting what lived, not what was planted
We do not just plant trees; we grow trees, restore ecosystems and build livelihoods. Survival, not ceremony, is the measure.
The full nine-point approach is being finalised with the team — the list above reflects the approach as published to date.
Who we work with
- Community tree nurseries and youth groups
- Farmers integrating trees into fields
