The power of teamwork: how this work began
Community members in Tharaka Nithi came together, listened, shared resources, understood their roles — and decided together. That is still how we work.
SACEP Kenya was not founded in a boardroom. Community members in Tharaka Nithi came together, sat down, and listened to one another.
They shared what they had — land for demonstrations, time, local knowledge, a nursery bed here, a water tank there. They worked out who was good at what, understood their roles, and decided together what to do first. No one was handed a plan; the plan was built in the open, by the people who would live with it.
That founding habit became our method. Every programme we run — kitchen gardens, tree growing, farmer alerts — starts with the community in the room, contributes local resources alongside outside support, and leaves the community owning the result.
Teamwork is not a slogan here. It is the operating system.
